The Call –#CambridgeAnalytica #Facebook

Recent revelations have shed light on the extensive use of Facebook user information by the Trump campaign, working with Cambridge Analytica. At a minimum, Facebook was negligent in preventing the theft and misuse of the personal data of more than 50 million Americans.

Cambridge Analytica worked with a Russia-connected professor to gather the Facebook data under false pretenses and use it to create psychological profiles of voters to target with political messages. Cambridge Analytica also held meetings with a Kremlin-connected Russian company about targeting information to voters.

At best, this demonstrates an extremely negligent policing of the use of private information by Facebook, and suggests a direct link to the use of the Facebook information by Russia in their meddling in the 2016 election.

Facebook information of people throughout the United States was clearly misappropriated and misused. The Massachusetts state Attorney General has announced she will investigate Facebook and Cambridge Analytica’s violation of Facebook users privacy and the misuse of their information. Every state Attorney General should protect the citizens of their states by investigating Facebook and Cambridge Analytica’s violations of their privacy.
